Originle is a daily geography quiz game that takes you on a worldwide journey through the stories of real individuals. Instead of maps, national flags, and capital cities, you must watch short videos and find cultural hints of an individual country. Every single detail can help you identify the right country.
The most interesting aspect of Originle is the interplay of identity and culture. Some of the guests are representatives of the global diaspora or are far from their motherland, and thus, their accent or current location may not give you any clues as to their true identity. In this game, you have to look beyond the obvious signs and combine all pieces of information before making a choice.
Originle is about collecting up to eight video clues, having three guesses to get everything right while gaining points for analytical skills. This is a great opportunity for geography buffs to try their luck at identifying countries and nations around the globe.
Every Originle challenge starts with a short video featuring a real-life person talking. Try to analyze what he or she says, speaks about, and whether there are any hints provided to you concerning their culture. In case you find the first video too vague in terms of facts, check more videos to find out more about the particular region’s cuisine, well-known places, neighboring countries, and traditions.
You may reveal eight clips, but each additional clue will cost you something. You begin each round with 10,000 points, and the earlier you reveal a clue, the fewer points you will spend doing so. Eventually, towards the end of the game, clues may cost 1,750 points, meaning you must carefully choose when to reveal another clip.
There are only three guesses available for you to identify the country. Each incorrect guess will lower your score by 30%, making wild guessing a bad strategy. Rather, you have to compare the pieces of evidence with each other, think of additional possibilities, and search for clues indicating a specific culture. Sometimes, one piece of footage may be sufficient.
To be successful while playing Originle, you need to find a balance between knowledge and points. Make a guess too early, and you risk losing a lot of points due to the error. If you spend too much time watching footage, points will be taken from your score due to clues being revealed.
